About Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir, Srinagar
SKUAST Kashmir
Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-Kashmir) is a state agricultural university headquartered at Shalimar in Srinagar. The original Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology was established in 1982; following the 1999 bifurcation, SKUAST-Kashmir serves the Kashmir division through a multi-campus academic, research and extension system.
Headquarters and Campuses
The university's headquarters are at Shalimar, Srinagar. Its academic and research activities are distributed across multiple campuses and centres. Students should check the location of the specific faculty or programme they are considering because not every course is necessarily delivered at the same campus.
Academic Focus
SKUAST-Kashmir specialises in agriculture and allied sciences rather than operating as a general-purpose multidisciplinary university. Its teaching and research profile is shaped by the agricultural conditions of Kashmir and other hill and mountain environments, including temperate and cold-arid systems.
Research and Extension
Teaching, research and extension are core university mandates. Research centres, stations and extension units support location-specific work in agriculture and allied sectors, while technology dissemination and engagement with farming communities connect university research with regional agricultural needs.
Admission Information
Programme availability, entrance requirements and counselling procedures should be checked for the current academic session. Applicants should confirm eligibility, important dates, seat rules, required documents and fee information directly from SKUAST-Kashmir before submitting an application.
Difference from SKUAST-Jammu
SKUAST-Kashmir and SKUAST-Jammu are separate universities. SKUAST-Kashmir is headquartered at Shalimar in Srinagar, while SKUAST-Jammu is headquartered at Chatha in Jammu. Students should use the correct university website, admission notification and campus information for the programme they intend to join.
